A fire fighting system is probably the most important of the building services, as its aim is to protect human life and property, strictly in that order.
- A large store of water in tanks, either underground or on top of the building, called fire storage tanks
- A specialized pumping system, A large network of pipes ending in either hydrants or sprinklers (nearly all buildings require both of these systems)
- The detection can be a person seeing the fire, a smoke detector sensing smoke, a building's fire sprinkler system spraying water on a fire
- The warning can be someone running down hallways shouting "FIRE", a fire bell sounding, the fire horns sounding and the fire strobes flashing
